Baba Yaga

Major Project 2020-2021

In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga is a supernatural being who appears as a deformed or ferocious-looking old woman. Living at the heart of the forest in a hut that spins on chicken legs. She is a shapeshifter in form and nature, choosing to help or hinder.

This is a personal project that I created as part of my degree show. Inspired by the fairy tales of Baba Yaga and my heritage I worked with a scriptwriter and cinematographer to create a story that encompasses Yaga's transformative qualities. I was the

Co-director, Concept artist, Art Director, Makeup/Costume/Production Designer and Maker, Producer, head MUA and Set dresser for this project.

Logline: A young woman visits the terrifying crone in the woods seeking help. The strange encounter hovers between reality and nightmarish folktales.

La Calisto - Opera

La Calisto is sublime, ridiculous and bawdy all at the same time. Sinéad's production sets the action inside a box, where the enormities of the heavens are represented by symbolic domestic objects. The logic of dreams prevails and anything can happen.

Head Designer for this production along with Aoife Kelly, Lauren Wheatley, Maria Blay Gomez, Judith Smolenski, Kristina Tokic and Saoirse Carey.

The Crack

This is a Puppet Film created in collaboration with 3rd year students from the NFS. Our film followed the story of a young boy who discovers the family secret through a crack in the wall.

Alice in Wonderland

One of our 2nd year design projects , it consisted of building a small set box and designing a range of characters. I took it the extra mile by creating recreating the character of the Mad Hatter and Alice in real life.
